Tuesday June 28, 2022 // Afternoon Pre-Daycare Pickup
Today marks the end of the busy season. I am literally the gif of that kid walking in the house, dropping his backpack, and collapsing on the floor.
The past several weeks I’ve somehow navigated an important number anniversary, my wife’s birthday, my kid’s birthday, house guests, and an unexpected amount of additional freelance work. I’ll take a bourbon on the rocks, please.
Each year I have this month-long stretch. I’ve put systems in place to help ease the burden; the mental tax of juggling so much. At worst, it’s just another thing to worry about. At best, it’s a spotter half paying attention when the barbell is slowly coming down instead of up.
But… I’ve made it. Mostly unscathed with another gray or two.
The end of the busy season is such a weird feeling. The engine has been redlining for weeks. There’s still more things to do because there is always more to get done. Yet the gas pedal can be eased up on. Give it a break and just go and readjust back to the normal flow of life.
It feels good to have a second to pause. To write and to think.
There’s more to do but the busy season is behind me now.
